Doel van de cursus (alleen in het Engels beschikbaar)

The aim of the course is to prepare the managers of the future to handle the emergence of Information Technology Innovation in our society in a responsible way. After the course, the students should be able to act responsible when regarding adoption of technology in the organization. They should also be able to take part in the innovation process at the company. Theories will be studied and put in practice through the development of an "innovation product".
The learning goals are the following:

  • Gain knowledge in theories on knowledge management and innovation;
  • Reflect on and understand the role of emergent trends in Information Technology Innovation and its effects on organization, business and society;
  • Understand the role of IT disruption, cost dilemma as well as the importance of team collaboration in the emergence of new knowledge and innovative technology;
  • Apply theories and develop innovative product or process in the field of crisis management;
  • Conduct a team project in applied context.

To do so, the students will follow a set of interactive lectures presenting and discussing classical theories as well as models in the field of knowledge management and innovation. The students will be asked to reflect and participate actively in understanding the role of ITdisruption, dilemma as well as the role of collaboration in emergence of new knowledge and innovation. Boundaries and commonalities between management of Knowledge and Innovation will be presented and studied in detail. Particularly, the disruptive role of IT will be discussed as a catalyst of change in organizations but also for individuals.

The course draws on research and practices in a number of areas to understand and exploit innovation and knowledge management. Concequences and impact on organization, business and society will be investigated using "responsible IT". The course will based its approach on the role played by information technology at the individual and organizational level.

The course will require innovative contribution from the students in the field of information technology and design. For example, students will be asked to select amongst a list of case studies and will in small groups empirically investigate and test an idea related. Guest speaker from business will present innovation in different areas such as healthcare and banking sectors.

The course includes lectures, discussions of articles, cases, and presentations of group assignments. Given the interactive nature of the course, class attendance is mandatory.
