Doel van de cursus (alleen in het Engels beschikbaar)

A minor course broadens a student's horizon by focusing on another academic discipline. In addition, the minor can provide direction for a subsequent Master programme.

Inhoud van de cursus (alleen in het Engels beschikbaar)

Students are allowed to compose their own minor program. The minor program has to comply with the following criteria:

  • Compulsory courses that are part of the curriculum, courses that are similar to courses in the curriculum (overlapping courses), the five compulsory optional subjects of the first or second year, courses from previous programs, language courses and skill courses cannot be part of your minor program.
  • A minor program can contain a maximum of 2 first-year courses taught at Tilburg University, another Dutch University or international partner university (2 x 6 ECTS). If you wish to take more than 12 ECTS of first-year courses, you are required to provide a motivation explaining why it is necessary for your study plan.
  • Courses need to be of the appropriate level. This means Bachelor students can only take courses at Bachelor level and not at Master level.
  • The minor program has to be approved by the Board of Examiners before it can be listed on the transcript of records and will count towards the 30 ECTS of the minor program. It is extremely important that students do not forget to inform TSH Board of Examiners about changes in the minor program. If students follow courses which have not been approved by the Board of Examiners, this may result in study delay.
  • It is the student\\\'s own responsibility to make sure to meet the prerequisite requirements for all courses from the minor program.
  • Global Law Bachelor courses (GLB) have special admission requirements: a. Non-GLB students can take a maximum of 2 global law courses; b. these courses need to be taught in the same year; c. non-GLB students cannot take first year courses (exceptions to this rule are ‘GLB: Constitutional Law’ and ‘GLB: Tort Law’). On the basis of this information, the Board of Examiners of Humanities offers the student a provisional advice. Subsequently, the student needs to apply for admission into the Global Law course by sending a grade list, motivation and the provisional advice of the Board of Examiners to Anja.vanValen@uvt.nl. It is the management of GLB that takes the final decision about the admission. Please take into account that GLB allows a maximum of 5 students in each course.

You have the opportunity to take, as part of your minor, one or more of the following online courses, coordinated by LAS lecturers:
840800: Social Psychology (Saylor Academy)
840802: Introduction to Theory of Literature (Yale University)
840803: Management Information Systems (Saylor Academy)
840801: Business Law and Ethics (Saylor Academy)

Bijzonderheden (alleen in het Engels beschikbaar)

When deciding what minor courses to choose, it is advisable to take into consideration what Master you would like to take after graduation from your bachelor program. The reason for this is that some Master programs have additional requirements. In some cases, you can use your minor program to meet these additional requirements during your bachelor program, enabling you to enroll for the Master program of your choice without any study delays. If you need any advice on this, please make an appointment with the Academic Advisor.
