Recent developments in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are driven by the aim to bridge the divide between humans and computers. Increasingly, computers are becoming an integral part of our daily environment. In this course, students become familiar with modern computer methods for processing images, sounds, and texts and for organizing information and knowledge. Students gain insight into the areas in which computers can support humans with respect to communicative and cognitive tasks such as recognition of visual objects, information retrieval, learning and processing social media.


This course offers an overview of the technical aspects of communication and information sciences. It will cover the following themes:

- Data Science & Big Data,
- Human-Computer Interaction,
- Artificial Intelligence (AI),
- Robotics,
- (Applied) Gaming,
- Computational Linguistics & Text Mining.


Het eindcijfer wordt bepaald door een schriftelijk tentamen (60% van het eindcijfer) en individuele opdrachten (40%) van het eindcijfer.
LET OP: CIW-studenten mogen dit vak niet opnemen in hun minor. De cursus is toegankelijk voor alle studenten (geen technische achtergrond nodig).
